Building European teams
11 December 2023
In the dynamic and ever-changing startup world, the ability to attract and retain top talent is pivotal to success. This challenge is often compounded by geographical constraints. Traditional recruitment methods, which often rely on local networks and connections, can be time-consuming and expensive. So, how do you effectively hire and manage a team in a new region, such as Europe?
Enter Scene. We have a global talent community and offices in the UK, Europe and USA. We help eliminate geographical barriers while also streamlining the way companies interview, assess and onboard candidates, ensuring the great people you hire start adding value as soon as possible. By empowering startups and scaleups to build distributed teams across Europe, we ensure businesses have access to the best talent — regardless of location.
Take a look at some examples of how we’ve helped companies scale successfully into Europe:
Deliveroo | Publicly listed B2C foodtech
– 37 placements made globally, including in the UK, France, Italy and Spain
– Scene was the exclusive talent partner for a member of Deliveroo’s executive team, working on a specific time-bound project to help scale the regulatory function as the company approached its IPO
“Rapid growth is not glamorous and requires sharp focus on key priorities, creativity and most importantly grit. The recruiters at Scene have the hunger to deliver results, but they also know what it’s like to walk in your shoes and to get something off the ground. The majority of my leaders were Scene candidates. Having an external partner who will help you to build something sustainable is invaluable.”

DDrobotec | B2B2C healthtech, privately owned
– One key placement made in Switzerland in the technology team
– DDrobotec was referred to Scene by a C-Suite member of another digital health company, having never engaged a talent partner before. The company needed a Tech Engineer to lead its new prototype development, but had previously struggled to attract the right person. Within six weeks, Scene secured an in-demand candidate to join DDrobotec, who is a great cultural fit within such a unique business
Pynea | B2B SaaS, seed funded (undisclosed amount)
– Four placements made across technology and operations, including a remote Senior Flutter Developer, based in Romania, and the Head of Growth & Operations who is a seasoned startup leader
– Despite competition with other talent agencies, Scene remains Pynea’s preferred supplier
Hootsuite | B2B SaaS martech, Series C funded ($60m)
– Five commercial placements in EMEA, including three Account Managers, one Strategic Account Director and one SDR
– Scene helped build out Hootsuite’s French and UK Account Management expansion teams to emulate their successes in North America; 100% of candidates placed are female
“Scene are strategic growth partners. They break the behavioural stereotype of short-term wins and quick fees you get with so many agencies. Scene are trustworthy, there when I need them and allow me to plan out 12-month hiring cycles, knowing they will deliver.”
— Head of Talent, Hootsuite
Tempus | B2C fintech, seed funded ($1.9m)
– Two remote core engineering placements made in EMEA, including a mission-critical placement into the company’s founding team
– Scene was engaged directly by the founder when Tempus was defining the company’s product market fit
CIS Pharma | B2B biopharma, privately owned
– One key placement made, an industry renowned Chief Medical Officer (CMO), to guide CIS’s efforts and help pursue the next funding stage in order to move its product into the clinical phase
– Scene produced a shortlist of strong, readily available candidates in Switzerland and consequently filled the role. The CMO is now an integral part of the C-Suite
