25 September 2023
Hiring the right people at the right time is imperative to the success of your business — and our partners rely on us to deliver results. Below are just some of the key candidate placements we’ve made at fast-growing tech businesses so far this year.
Candidate:
Kimeshan Naidoo, CTO at BX
Candidate’s impact:
Kimeshan’s experience has enabled him to deliver huge growth at BX and have a big impact on the tech team and the wider business. He ensures BX makes the right decisions, functioning as a great tech partner to the CEO.
The brief:
BX, a seed-funded climatetech based in the UK, needed a CTO, preferably one with prior experience of a startup’s successful scaling journey.
The ideal candidate would be an exceptional software engineer with a track record of building high-performing tech functions and operating as a strategic member of an executive committee.
The result:
Scene delivered a combination of talent and growth services. Scene found Kimeshan, Unibuddy’s only technical co-founder and first engineer, within two weeks. He had experience of building an engineering function with a strong collaborative identity that thrives on fast feedback.
Scene also helped optimise BX’s hiring and onboarding processes, elevate the brand to make the company and job descriptions stand out from other employers and facilitate introductions to help BX’s executive team expand their network within the startup ecosystem.
Candidate:
Paige Henke, Head of Growth at onezone
Candidate’s impact:
Paige has already contributed to a 308% increase in paying subscribers and reduced company overheads by ~40% by renegotiating supplier contracts.
The brief:
Onezone, a seed-funded hospitality app based in the UK, was looking for a Head of Growth to drive business development and B2B sales on the next stage of growth.
The ideal candidate would have a track record of delivering against revenue or user growth targets, preferably at a startup that was on a similar scaling journey to onezone. The candidate would ideally also have experience working in sales with an app/SAAS or other technology platform.
The result:
Scene found Paige, the US expansion lead at what3words. She had been on the startup growth journey with what3words, where she was tasked with tackling a new market for the company and bringing best practice from Europe to the US. Paige also has experience leading sales teams globally across the UK, US and UAE and has a strong history of building and driving a pipeline.
Candidate:
Linda Wang, Head of Marketing at RiskLedger
Candidate’s impact:
After only a few months Linda is building out key internal processes, helping shape Risk Ledger’s strategy and growing and managing a team.
The brief:
Risk Ledger, a Series A security startup based in the UK, wanted to build out its strategic marketing function within the leadership team, specifically someone who could help with the company’s global expansion.
The ideal candidate would have prior experience at a startup in a revenue generating role, with experience working cross functionally across marketing, sales and product.
The result:
Scene delivered a combination of talent and growth services. Scene recruited Linda, who was part of Omnipresent’s founding team and was with the startup on the journey from pre-seed through to Series B. While at Omnipresent, she built the marketing and partnerships team from the ground up, grew the go-to-market function and created an inbound marketing engine, which was the biggest revenue driver for the business.
In addition, Scene helped Risk Ledger with salary benchmarking for numerous roles and collated feedback from prospective candidates on the interview and assessment processes, job descriptions and overall hiring experience to help the company improve its process.
Candidate:
Nick Turner-Samuels, Product Director at Silverbird
Candidate’s impact:
Since joining, Nick has built the product roadmap while simultaneously upskilling the product team in agile methodologies.

The ideal candidate would have experience leading product development end-to-end, as well as payments expertise and experience in a product leadership role.
The result:
Scene found Nick, the Chief Product Officer at crypto startup Ziglu, where he helped take the business and product from pre-launch to live on the App Store, right through to scaleup. Scene successfully onboarded Nick within three weeks of the initial role qualification.
Nick initially joined Silverbird on a temporary basis, but he immediately impressed with his domain knowledge, product gravitas and ability to quickly deliver on critical projects. Consequently, he was soon hired as a permanent team member.
